Dominic Doutney is a British pianist, based in Chicago. He is currently undertaking his Doctor of Musical Arts at Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music with Professor James Giles, as a recipient of the Eckstein scholarship. He is a graduate of the Royal College of Music, where he studied with Professor Ian Jones, as well as Professors Dmitri Alexeev and Sofya Gulyak. He was the recipient of the Fishmongers' Company Beckwith Scholarship, and at his graduation he was awarded the prestigious Tagore Gold Medal, given to two students annually for outstanding musical contribution to the Royal College. He performed for His Majesty King Charles III (then Prince of Wales) at the prize-giving ceremony.
​In May 2024 Dominic received both 1st prize and audience prize at the Washington International Competition. The following September, Dominic placed first in the Professional Artist Category at the Seattle International Piano Competition. Dominic was also recently named a fellow by the Luminarts Cultural Foundation, an honour bestowed on two Chicago-based classical musicians each year. Other international competition prizes include 1st prize at the 25th Mauro Paolo Monopoli International Competition in Barletta, Italy, and the Royal Over-Seas League in London; 3rd prize at the Jaén International Piano Competition and the Clamo International Competition, both in Spain; and 5th prize at the Lyon International Competition. Dominic has made appearances on BBC Radio 3, CNBC and Portugal’s Antena 2.
Concerto appearances include Beethoven’s 3rd concerto with the Soundiff Orchestra in Barletta, Italy; Rachmaninoff’s 2nd concerto with the Eastbourne Symphony Orchestra in Sussex, UK; and Brahms 1st concerto with the Málaga Philharmonic, in Jaén, Spain. Dominic has also performed Brahms 1st concerto with the Leipziger-symphonieorchester in the Leipzig Gewandhaus Mendelssohn-Saal, to critical acclaim; Schumann’s Piano Concerto in St John’s Smith Square with the Young Musician’s Symphony Orchestra; Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 5 in November with the Dorset Chamber Orchestra; and Stravinsky’s Concerto for Piano and Wind Instruments with Martyn Brabbins and the Royal College of Music Symphony Orchestra.
Dominic recently performed a solo recital at the Kennedy Center. Dominic also recently appeared as guest artist in the Wassermann Piano Series at Utah State University. Other recent solo appearances include recitals at the Lichfield Festival, the Beethoven Piano Society of Europe summer festival, recitals in Lisbon and Caldas da Rainha (Portugal), and a tour of six cities throughout Italy. Dominic has also made appearances at the Leicester International Festival, the Brighton Festival, the Kings Lynn Festival, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (in association with the Royal Over-Seas League), the Cranleigh Arts Centre, the Penrith Music Club, the Bury St. Edmunds concert series, the Sevenoaks Music Club, Hull Chamber Music, the Beaumaris festival, and many other venues round the UK. Other international solo performances include appearances at the Beaujolais music festival (France), Leipzig’s Media Campus Villa Ida, the Obidos masterclass series (Portugal), the Amalfi Coast Music Festival (Italy), the Poros Piano Festival (Greece), the Banff Centre (Alberta, Canada), and in Moscow (at the invitation of the Spivakov Foundation). In London, Dominic has performed at the Bolivar Hall, Cadogan Hall, Wigmore Hall, St Martin-in-the-Fields, the Elgar Room (at the Royal Albert Hall) and at 22 Mansfield Street (for the Nicholas Boas Foundation).
Dominic spent the summer of 2024 as a Fellow at the Bowdoin International Music Festival. In the summer of 2021 Dominic attended the Oxford Piano Festival on the personal invitation of Sir Andras Schiff, having played in a highly publicised masterclass with him at the Royal College of Music in the previous May. Dominic has also been awarded full scholarships to study at Aspen Festival and School and the Banff. Dominic has made appearances on BBC Radio 3 (performing Chopin and discussing the art of virtuosity), CNBC (discussing the experience of participating in a masterclass with Lang Lang), and recently performed an all-Rachmaninoff recital on Portugal’s biggest classical music radio station, Antena 2. Dominic has studied in masterclasses with artists including Stephen Hough, Veda Kaplinsky, Julian Martin, Boris Berman, Hung-Kuan Chen, John Perry and Peter Donohoe.

Outside of the piano, Dominic is a keen theatregoer, art enthusiast and fan of Harlequins Rugby Club.
